Science

As a science-lover, I truly enjoy seeing the young mind "working things out" on its own. This means I seek to give students the tools to come to their own conclusions rather than simply to tell them how the world works. Letting students design and conduct experiments and ponder science is as much a part of science instruction as memorizing facts. We remember what we do and what we figure out much more than what we are told.

Third grade science topics will include:

  • Sound
  • Planets
  • Animal Adaptations
  • Simple Machines
  • Plant Growth and Development

As a extra in our science curriculum I provide added design opportunities. Mimicking real-world engineering projects, we will take the science knowledge we acquire and apply it to design. These lessons are taken and modified from the Engineering is Elementary curriculum, the project I used to work on at the Museum of Science, Boston.
