FAQ
What if I want to volunteer or help out?
I am always happy to have parents in the room. If you have the time and the desire, please let me know and we can certainly make it happen.
How do I get a hold of you?
You can call me at school or on my cell. You can also email me. I'll always check email before school starts in the morning. All of my contact information is on the Contact page.
How much homework will my child have?
Thirty to forty minutes each night. We ask that third graders read 20 minutes four times a week (you'll use the reading log to keep track of this). In addition, Monday through Thursday nights there will be additional work, usually math. More info is on the homework page. I do not give homework over long vacations.
I lost my weekly reading log, how do I get another one?
You can download one here.
What will happen if my child is absent and misses work? What if they are out for a few days?
I'll make sure absentees get caught up. In terms of an extended absence, there is some work I can send home. The independent book and reading journal can be kept up during absence. If absentees have begun their word study, they can work on that. Of course their doing any work depends on whether they feel well enough. Having them get better is more important than completing missed work while sipping chicken soup.
Missed homework will likely not be made up. Homework is to support the instruction that happened in school. Having them practice a skill that I have not gone over with them puts an undue burden on everyone.
If you know that your child is going to be out for a few days (such as a trip), please let me know and I can put together something that can be done independently.
